Happiness is the state of inner satisfaction and contentment. However inner satisfaction come when a person has no need or desire. Further it is obvious that none has no desire and where there is desire there is no happiness.
According to John Staurt MiU “I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires rather then in attempting to satisfy them”.
It was a time when the peoples had little life supporting facilities. The quantity and quality of eatables were a factor for them. The peoples were still happy and satisfied. They had love and sympathy for each other. Hatred and unhappiness had no known existence.
But in the modern advanced era, the quantity and quality of eatables increased, still the
peoples are eating each other. Poverty is reduced still the peopled are starving.
The reason behind the complexity and hardship of life is advancement of desires with advancement of life. Desires deprive us of happiness. The complexity and trouble starts right from the time when Hazrat Hawwa (R.A) show her desire to taste the grain forbidden by Allah in the heaven. According to Betrand Russel, happy life must start with a happy child. But in this complex period, children get born in an environment where there is anxiety and unhappiness. Consequently they learnt hatred and anxiousness and it became a lesson for the coming generation. So that a tree of hatred and unhappiness gets planted. The child is born in human form, but they get nourished on the diet of disposable silver, plastic and paper containers which in other words render the child insensitive like the disposable container. The sense of love & sympathy is totally lacking in them.
Happiness come from inner satisfaction and contentment. It is often realized that worldly comfort and possession do not automatically lead to happiness. The persons who had worldly comfort and possession, they become unhappy from fear of death which is the ultimate reality. We could get love. laughter and happiness, but we can be the happier one, if we conquer our ego or the “I complex” by controlling our desires. I not mean to say that desires should be deprived totally, however, I mean desires to become the richest of mind, spirit and not of worldly riches.
