National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) 2025 was conducted by National Testing Agency on May, 4th 2025. As per NTA data, total 24,015 candidates from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025, according to the results declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday June, 14 2025. The exam was conducted by NTA on May 4 across 5,468 centers in 552 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, including Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Singapore. 50,957 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir had registered for this year’s examination, of whom 49,326 appeared. The qualification rate is 48.7 percent, which is slightly lower than last year.
In previous year of 2024, 48,545 candidates had registered for the NEET (UG) exam from the Jammu and Kashmir, whom appearing 47,228 and 24,565 candidates qualified the exam. The pass percentage in the previous year was around 52 percent. Consequently, Even though an increase in total number of registrations and candidates appearing this year, there is a minor drop in the number of students qualifying the exam. In contrast, the participation rate is 96.8 percent in 2025, remains robust and consistent with previous years.
The J&K state topper for this year is Aftab Iqbal, who got 423 rank at the national level with a percentile score of 99.9808085 in NEET (UG) 2025.
The NEET-UG acts as the qualifying examination for a wide range of undergraduate medical and associated courses, including MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. (H) Nursing, and BVSc & AH. It is also a qualifying exam for admissions to AYUSH courses BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, and BHMS under national counseling conducted by the All-India Ayush Central Counseling Committee (AACCC). The National Testing Agency (NTA) is only responsible for conducting the exam and declaring the results, while state and central authorities make their own merit lists based on All India Ranks and reservation norms. In Jammu and Kashmir we have Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (JKBOPEE) responsible for conducting counseling for medical courses.
In Jammu and Kashmir over the past six years shows a striking increase in both the number of students appearing in NEET exam and those qualifying it. In 2019, a total of 26,595 candidates had registered for the entrance exam. This number increased significantly to 33,357 in 2020, and to 34,615 in 2021. By the year 2022, it reached 38,140, and in 2023 it remained at 37,276. However, 2024 recorded a sharp growth, with 48,545 registrations, which further raised to 50,957 in 2025.
Meanwhile, the number of candidates qualifying the exam has also raised, although with some changes. In 2021, 14,743 candidates out of 31,479 who appeared had qualified the exam, providing a success metric of 46.8 per cent. In 2022, 20,005 candidates qualified out of 36,374 in the exam, with a success rate of around 55 percent. During 2023, 20,564 candidates qualified from 36,431 who appeared, pushing the qualification rate to 56.4 percent which was the highest in recent years. The following year, 2024, saw 24,565 qualifiers out of 47,228, registering a 52 per cent success rate. And, now in 2025, the number of qualifiers dropped slightly to 24,015, while the number of students appearing rose to 49,326, leading to a qualification rate of 48.7 percent.
Despite this slight decrease in success rate, the rising number of candidates appearing in the exam every year shows a growing medical education aspiration across the Union Territory. The data shows a doubling of interest and participation in just six years, highlighting the both improved awareness and access to preliminary resources across the districts in union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
